Can we please have a new Renaissance? I am so tired of the dark ages!
Gloria Muñoz to Feature at Jack Kerouac House of St. Pete!
Editor’s Note:
We have the tools to create a new Renaissance right at hand. We have the ability to communicate around the globe with the touch of a finger. Furthermore, we just have to apply this technology and data and voilà, a new civilization would be born. Because, I have to tell you, I am completely tired of these dark ages that we find ourselves in. Poets must lead the charge and get our society being social again. Just my 2 cents, ya know.
Let’s get on with the show! We gots lots to tell ya about y’all. Coming from the South Bronx, I just love sayin y’all.
Thomas Sayers Ellis: Paradise Opening Reception at the Florida Museum Of Photographic Art
Poetix friend, photographer and fellow poet will be exhibiting at FMoPA. I got a sneak peek at the exhibit and I have to tell you it is quite incredible and you should check it out. The opening reception of Thomas Sayers Ellis: Paradise ǀ Paradise Layered, is on June 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Backstory
During his tenure, Thomas created a visual story of Saint Petersburg and its inhabitants. This story is sometimes comical, sometimes dark. But most of all, it sheds an intriguing light on the mechanism of the Florida tourist industry, the people that keep the city running and the people the city attracts like moths to a flame. By using a mixture of black/white and color photography, digital as well as film, and accidental double exposures, Thomas put together an eclectic collection of images that constructs a multi-layered account of his year as SPMOP’s first Photo Laureate. An accompanying photo book with an extended collection of Thomas’s photographs and poems will be presented at the opening.
